Our Mission
Storytelling for Ocean Protection
We are a community of scientists, storytellers, journalists and filmmakers who are dedicated to the ocean. Our work is motivating scientists, policymakers and individuals to engage meaningfully with nature and protect our oceans.
Our goal is to protect South Africa’s marine environment by making the Great African Seaforest a global icon.
“I need no convincing that an ecosystem such as this is of inestimable value & must be protected.”

Our Projects
Films
World-class films are an integral part of our content. We tell immersive, personal stories that have showcased the Great African Seaforest to a global audience. Our films include the Netflix Original My Octopus Teacher.
Books
The Sea Change Project team is currently working on a few new book projects, including a children’s book to be published in North America by HMH in Fall 2022. Sea Change: Primal Joy and Art of Underwater Tracking by Craig Foster and Ross Frylinck (edited by Pippa Ehrlich) is available for purchase here.
Exhibitions
Sea Change Project conceptualizes and curates multi-media exhibitions that convey the story of our inter-connectedness with the natural world while raising awareness for the Great African Seaforest.
Education
We are developing Great African Seaforest education materials. Our goal is to grow a global nature-based community of ocean and seaforest ambassadors.
Science
All of our work is informed by science. We document marine biology, conduct own biodiversity research, and collaborate with academic institutions to discover the secrets of the Great African Seaforest.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Protect the Great African Seaforest
Kelp forests are highly productive near-shore marine ecosystems. Their unique structure provides a three-dimensional habitat for thousands of marine species. They are found on 25% of our world's coastlines and are the second most vulnerable marine ecosystem to climate change.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Protect & Take Action
Lack of knowledge and awareness, and our human impact on this planet are at the root of all threats to the Great African Seaforest. We are in the ocean every day, learning the secrets of the seaforest and finding stories that inspire people to fall in love with it. By sharing these stories, people all over the world, including local decision-makers, will recognise the value of this special place. To help us make the Great African Seaforest an iconic wilderness please watch, donate and share.
