Carina Rubin-Frankal

Carina Rubin-Frankal is the Executive Director of the Sea Change Project, working at the intersection of storytelling, systems, and environmental impact. She holds overall strategic direction for the organisation: aligning team, partnerships, and funding toward long-term change.

Carina spearheaded the My Octopus Teacher impact campaign, translating the global success of the Academy Award–winning film into lasting initiatives, most notably the Global Kelp Movement, an ongoing worldwide effort to protect kelp forest ecosystems.

She co-leads global fundraising and partnerships and brings over 35 years of experience across film, multimedia, and nonprofit leadership – shaped by her studies at Emerson College in Boston and over a decade working in New York City.

Her work is grounded in a belief that storytelling can shift systems and deepen our connection to the natural world. Carina lives in Cape Town with her husband Steven and their two children.
