For millions of years, humans have thrived in the wild, and you could consider this state as our natural or original design. On humanities timeline, the industrial age is but a heartbeat, and not nearly long enough to adapt to a completely different environment.
We have been taught to see ourselves as separate from the world, but this is possibly our gravest error. As the philosopher Alan Watts once said, we are functions of what the whole world is doing, in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing. To have faith is to trust yourself to the water. When you swim you don’t grab hold of the water, because if you do you will sink and drown. Instead you relax, and float.
“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, There is a rapture on the lonely shore, There is society, where none intrudes, By the deep sea, and music in its roar: I love not man the less, but Nature more” George Byron
